There are 14 districts in the state of Kerala, including Kasargod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, Alappuzha (Alpepe), Pathanamthitta, Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram are among the most famous tourist destinations.



Inland lake connected to the network of backwaters canals of the state's palm-fringe canals. With the west-flowing rivers, backwater spreads to some 1,900 kilometers. 

The dates of up to the centuries of backwater routes and special transportation of coconut, rubber, rice and spices have been used for all transport needs for a long time. 

Today, these waterways connect remote villages and islands to the mainland and nerve centers in coastal areas.



The most interesting area in the backwaters is the Kutanad area, which is called the rice bowl of Kerala. 

This area is probably the only place in the continent where the fields are carried down from the bottom of the ocean, using a system of dice and bondage.

The largest backwater section, Vhennad Lake, which opens in the sea at Kochi port and flows through three districts - Alappuzha, Kottayam and Kochi. 

There are eight 'weapons' near Ashtamudi lake, which cover a major part of Kollam district in the south and the second largest lake in the state.

Alappuzha Backwater is one of the major centers for boat trips. Through this city the complex network of canals has earned it as "the Venice of the East". 

Small but long boat boats are water taxis, coir workers present an interesting view because they absorb coconut fiber in the pool, beat them and wind the strands on long spindles between endless lines of coconut trees.
